Ulster Unionist MLAs Ross Hussey and Sandra Overend have welcomed the announcement that the planning application has been lodged for the new £140 million emergency services training college at Desertcreat near Cookstown.
West Tyrone MLA Mr Hussey, who is the Ulster Unionists’ Policing spokesperson, said:
“The news that the planning application for the new Training College for the Police, Prison and Fire services is good news for all those who want to see our emergency service personnel receive their training in modern state of the art facilities.
With regard to the Policing component I am confident that Police forces from all around the world will be attracted to the 21st Century facilities on offer to learn the best practice which the PSNI are adopting with regard to the training of its officers.
Today’s announcement re the lodging of the planning application represents an important step along the road to completion.”
Mid-Ulster MLA Sandra Overend said:
“This project will be a tremendous boost to Cookstown and the entire Mid-Ulster constituency representing an investment of £140 million. Mid-Ulster has been badly affected by the recession, and this has been particularly true of the local construction sector, so the 1,500 plus jobs that are expected to be created as a result of this project cannot come quickly enough.
Cookstown, Mid-Ulster and the whole of Northern Ireland will reap the benefits of Desertcreat for decades to come.”
