Reported mortar attack on PSNI patrol “deeply disturbing” – Hussey

Ulster Unionist Policing Board member, Ross Hussey MLA has expressed his concern at new that the PSNI are investigating reports of a mortar and gun attack on one of their patrols in West Belfast.

Ross said:

“It is deeply disturbing to learn that the PSNI are investigating reports of a mortar and gun attack on one of their patrols.  We do not want to return to the days when certain areas were deemed as “no go areas” for the security forces.’

“It is sickening that PSNI officers who were taking part in a routine patrol were targeted in such a cowardly way.  It is clear that whoever carried out this attack did so with the intent of killing PSNI officers.’

“When you consider that this attack took place in a densely populated area, we could easily have also been looking at civilian casualties or fatalities.’

“I hope that the PSNI will be given the support they need by anyone who has any information that may help them make progress in their investigations.’
