Nesbitt concerned at University offer blunder

Ulster Unionist Leader Mike Nesbitt has expressed his concerns at a blunder by the University of Ulster which saw hundreds of students wrongly informed that they had been accepted for a place.

The Strangford MLA said:

“I am extremely concerned at reports that some 370 students were told via email that they had been successful in gaining a place to study at the University of Ulster at Jordanstown only to be told a few hours later that their offers were being withdrawn because of an ‘error’.

This is a dreadful situation for these young people and their families to have been placed in and through no fault of their own. The period in the run up to the announcement of A Level results is an extremely stressful time for all concerned and this mistake by the University of Ulster has caused incredible anguish to literally hundreds of families.

I am also concerned that the University does not appear to have been open and honest from the outset and I am calling on the Minister Stephen Farry to intervene and to ensure steps are taken so that this cannot happen again.”
