Beggs condemns Glenarm arson attack

Roy Beggs, Ulster Unionist MLA for East Antrim has condemned the arson attack on a family home in Glenarm in the early hours of tuesday morning.

Roy Beggs said,

“The local community in Glenarm is absolutely horrified at this extremely serious incident and it is fortunate that the family and indeed those in neighbouring properties did not suffer injury as a result of the arson attack.

'It was an act of madness to use petrol to set a tyre set alight at the front door of a house and we could easily have been dealing with a murder inquiry this morning because once a fire gains a hold, no one knows when it will end.

'In addition to the seriousness of this event itself, we also have to consider the fact that such deliberate acts risk the lives of others as emergency services are drawn from other emergency situations. I would like to pay tribute to the action of both neighbours and the fire service in tackling this incident and extinguishing the fire.

'I would ask anyone with any information that might be relevant to contact the police immediately  so that those responsible can be held to account for their actions and to spare other people this type of ordeal."
