Swann praises Northern Ireland International Airshow

Ulster Unionist Culture, Arts & Leisure spokesperson Robin Swann has praised the organisers of the Northern Ireland International Airshow which took place on the North Coast this weekend.

The North Antrim MLA said:

“This weekend tens of thousands of spectators flocked to Portrush to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Northern Ireland International Airshow. Great credit is due to the organisers for staging such a tremendous event.

Saturday's highlight was the appearance of the world famous Red Arrows who thrilled the crowds in spite of a technical problem and a bird strike which led to a shorter routine than planned.

In addition to the RAF’s fantastic display team, over the two days the watching crowds saw many other aircraft including the Eurofighter Typhoon and a Tiger Moth and Sunday's proceedings closed with a Russian Antinov plane dropping millions of poppy petals over the West Strand.

Whilst the main focus of attention was obviously in the air, there was plenty to see and do on the ground with the Royal Marine Commandos staging a beach landing and a host of trade stalls being set up.

As ever this was a tremendous event with fun for all the family and I can thoroughly recommend it.”
