Nesbitt hits out at Tourist Board’s failure to capitalise on McIlroy success

Ulster Unionist Leader Mike Nesbitt has hit out at the continuing failure of the Northern Ireland Tourist Board to capitalise on the success of local golfers, particularly Rory McIlroy, who yesterday added the BMW Championship to last week’s Deutsche Bank Championship to make it a total of four victories in 2012, not least of which was the PGA Championship itself.

Mr Nesbitt said:

“I am absolutely amazed that the Discovernorthernireland.com website search box still does not respond to "Rory McIlroy".

Surely they should be seeking to maximise the opportunities to promote Northern Ireland as the home of the hottest property in World golf today?

This is in direct contravention of the first rule of marketing, which is - whenever you are selling, make it easier to sell.

It is deeply ironic that in a sport where the spectators cry "you are the man", Discover Northern Ireland consider him a non-person!

The Tourist Board is missing out on a golden opportunity to capitalise on golf tourism and this situation must be rectified immediately.”
