Flaws in management of maintenance contracts a “dark shadow” on NIHE’s reputation – Hussey

Ulster Unionist Public Accounts Committee member, Ross Hussey MLA has said a report highlighting the serious flaws in the management of Northern Ireland Housing Executive Maintenance contracts casts a “dark shadow” on the reputation of the body.

Ross said:

“The audit report into the handling of maintenance contracts by NIHE undoubtedly casts a dark shadow over the reputation of the organisation.  The findings of this report will undoubtedly be a huge blow to the public’s confidence in the body.’ 

“The public have been let down by those with the Northern Ireland Executive who gambled tax payers money on overpriced or poor quality maintenance work.  The Housing Executive provides a vital service to in Northern Ireland; this is why transparency is paramount.’

“Lessons must be learned from the findings of this report, I hope that the Housing Executive can move forward from this difficult period and rebuild their relationship with the public and their tenants.’
