Beggs calls for tougher action on knife crime following Carrickfergus stabbing

East Antrim Ulster Unionist MLA Roy Beggs has called for tougher action to be taken to combat knife crime following a serious stabbing incident in Carrickfergus on Saturday evening, the third such incident to take place in the Province on the same night.

 Mr Beggs said:

“First of all I would like to wish the injured man a full and speedy recovery.

I would also appeal for anyone who saw anything of this incident which occurred in the Dunluskin Crescent area of Carrickfergus at approximately 8pm on Saturday night, to come forward immediately and help the Police.

The fact that Northern Ireland witnessed three separate stabbings in the one night – a fatal one in Craigavon and two others described as “critical“ in Carrickfergus and “life threatening” in Bessbrook, indicates that more must be done to combat the threat of knife crime. I certainly would support tougher action and sentences to get knives off our streets.”
