Ulster Unionist Newry & Armagh MLA Danny Kennedy has condemned the robbery and arson attack on a bar in Newry in the early hours of Monday morning.
Mr Kennedy said:
“I totally condemn the actions of the gang responsible for the attack on McCoy’s bar in Kilmorey Street. Not content with robbing the premises, I understand that two members of staff were assaulted before being tied up and left inside premises which were then set alight.
It was a mercy that the fire brigade arrived promptly and rescued the two members of staff or we could have been facing a tragedy this morning.
I would like to commend the bravery and swift response of the emergency services and would appeal to anyone who can assist in catching the gang responsible. Clearly these are very dangerous individuals who must be caught.”
