Hussey condemns attack on Police

The Ulster Unionist Party’s Policing Board spokesperson Ross Hussey has hit out at those responsible for a bomb attack on Police in Poleglass.

The West Tyrone MLA said:

“Thursday night saw yet another attempt to murder Police Officers, this time in the Poleglass area of west Belfast when a pipe-bomb was thrown at a police vehicle in Glenwood View at 8pm.

The officers were doing their duty in responding to a call-out when they were attacked but mercifully the device failed to explode.

In addition to the attempt to kill police officers, those responsible for the attack caused great inconvenience and distress to the local community causing the evacuation of 20 houses which kept people out of their homes until 3am.

Obviously the finger of suspicion will point at so-called “dissident” republicans and comes just a day after the Home Office announced that the threat level from dissident republicans to Great Britain has been downgraded from "substantial" to "moderate".

The Police exist to serve and protect the entire community and it is essential that the entire community demonstrates support for the Police and actively assists them to combat all forms of criminality and terror from whatever source.”
