Ulster Unionists condemn Longlands murder

The Ulster Unionist Party’s Newtownabbey Councillors have condemned last night’s gun attack in the Longlands area in which a 36 year old local man, Danny McKay was murdered.

Councillor John Scott said:

“I unreservedly condemn this dreadful attack which has left a man dead. I would obviously like to extend my deepest sympathies to Mr McKay’s family. The local community is shocked that this type of incident could take place because like everyone else in Newtownabbey, they had hoped that this type of cold-blooded murder was consigned to Northern Ireland’s past.

I would call on anyone who can assist the Police in catching the killers to come forward immediately and ensure that these dangerous individuals are taken off the streets as quickly as possible.”

Councillor Mark Cosgrove added:

“This murder is a chilling reminder of Northern Ireland’s darkest days when such attacks were all too frequent. The people of Newtownabbey want no part in this, they simply want to live their lives in peace and bring up their families in an atmosphere free from fear and gangsterism.

It is essential that those who appointed themselves as judge, jury and executioners of Danny McKay must be brought before a court of law and made to pay for their crime.”
