Attack on East Belfast pensioner “deeply disturbing” - Copeland

East Belfast MLA, Michael Copeland has described a burglary during which a 70-year-old man was tied up and assaulted as “deeply disturbing”.

The Ulster Unionist said:

“News of this attack has greatly shocked the entire community in East Belfast.  It is deeply disturbing that a pensioner would be targeted in such a cowardly way.’

“I am pleased to learn that the PSNI have arrested someone in connection with the burglary and assault.  I know that this will help put the minds of the local community at ease to know that the perpetrator could be quickly brought to justice.’

“Sadly the gentleman’s car is still to be located and I would appeal to anyone who has any information on its whereabouts to contact the PSNI or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.’
