McCallister condemns sickening attack on pensioner

Ulster Unionist MLA John McCallister has condemned as “sickening” the attack on a man in his 80s which took place near Banbridge on Monday night.

The South Down representative said:

“I am absolutely disgusted that a man in his 80s should have the safety of his home violated and be subjected to a sickening and terrifying ordeal during which he was tied up, pushed to the ground and had a sum of cash stolen.

The fact that one of the two individuals responsible carried a knife indicates just how dangerous these men are and how important it is that they are caught.

I would therefore appeal for anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the vicinity of the Aughnacloy Road, near Lower Castlevennon Road, Banbridge at about nine o’clock on Monday night to come forward immediately and help the Police to catch these individuals before they cause any more suffering.”
