Cookstown Ulster Unionists express anger and sadness at the murder of David Black

Ulster Unionist representatives for the Cookstown area have expressed their anger and sadness at the cold blooded murder of David Black as he drove to work at Maghaberry Prison this morning.

Cookstown Councillor Trevor Wilson, who is Chair of the Ulster Unionist Councillors’ Association and who knew Mr Black, said:

“I utterly condemn the cold blooded murder of David Black which took place this morning.  Like many people in Cookstown I knew Mr Black and both he and his family are well respected in the local area.

Cookstown is in a state of shock at today’s news and I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to David’s wife and children and to the wider family circle at this terrible time.”

Mid-Ulster MLA Sandra Overend said;

“This is an absolute tragedy for the family and my thoughts are with them and Mr Black’s colleagues as they attempt to deal with the aftermath of this shocking murder. The terrorists responsible have nothing to offer anyone and must be defeated.”
