Ulster Unionist Justice Spokesperson Tom Elliott has questioned the intervention of the Attorney General in a land tribunal case against the Department of Social Development and Department of Finance and Personnel.
The Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA said:
“The Attorney General is the chief legal advisor to the government where he advises on the most important and complex legal matters facing the Executive. I therefore find it strange that he is speaking in support of a case against two departments within that Executive.
I understand that he is giving an independent human rights perspective on the case and he must act in the public interest but I am concerned that there may be some conflict given who the case is against. I will be tabling urgent questions to the First and deputy First Minister to clarify this situation.”
