Dobson Delighted at Bus Station Decision

Ulster Unionist MLA Jo-Anne Dobson has warmly welcomed the statement from DRD Minister Danny Kennedy that the green light has been given to a designated Bus facility for Banbridge.

Speaking following the announcement Mrs Dobson said: “For far too long Banbridge has been without a designated bus facility and I am delighted to hear that the funding has now been made available from the Department for Regional Development to enable its construction. “

“Earlier this year I met with Catherine Mason, Chief Executive of Translink alongside the DRD Minister Danny Kennedy to discuss this very issue.”

“During this meeting I relayed the very real concerns being expressed by local residents that for too long the bus facilities in Banbridge have been totally inadequate. I highlighted that improvements to the facilities in the town would bring benefits for residents, school children, businesses and visitors alike and that is what makes this announcement of funding so important for the people of Banbridge.”

“At this and other meetings I urged that this issue be prioritised within Translink and would commend both The Chief Executive and Minister Kennedy for listening and indeed responding to the views expressed by the people of Banbridge.”

“Securing this level of funding, which comes to £740,000, represents a considerable investment in the transport infrastructure in Banbridge and is even more significant given the present economic climate.”
