McGimpsey congratulates South & West Action Group on success of their cross-community work

Ulster Unionist South Belfast Assembly Member Michael McGimpsey has congratulated the South and West Action Team on their cross community event on the Broadway Roundabout to mark the end of a very successful year of cross community work.

The event brought together pupils from a number of schools from both sides of the community on the roundabout.

Speaking after the event Mr McGimspey said, “I was delighted to be invited and attend the event with children and community workers from both sides of the religious divide.  The event marked the end of a year where there has been a tremendous amount of very positive work going on to break down barriers and bring the two communities together.  Targeting this work toward our young people is essential to ensure a peaceful and stable society for the future.”

“I would like to pay tribute to the wonderful work of the community volunteers, teachers and the children themselves who were a great tribute to their schools and communities.”

In conclusion Mr McGimpsey said, “Too often the media focuses on the negatives in the vicinity of the Broadway roundabout area and it was wonderful to see the spotlight again on the positive work going on with the young people.
