Hussey condemns Pipe Bomb attack on Police in North Belfast

Ulster Unionist MLA and Policing Board Member Ross Hussey has condemned last night’s pipe bomb attack on Police in North Belfast.

Mr Hussey said:

“I utterly condemn last night’s incident in which a pipe bomb was thrown at a police patrol at the junction of the Oldpark Road and Rosapenna Street at ten o’clock last (Wednesday) night.

In addition to the attempt to murder Police officers the normal life of the local community was disrupted as 20 homes were evacuated while the device was dealt with.

Dissident republicans are believed to have been responsible for this incident and dissidents have also claimed responsibility for a similar device which was left in the Whitewell Road/Shore Road area on Tuesday night.

I unreservedly condemn both attacks and would call on anyone who can assist in catching those responsible to come forward immediately. The Police are there to protect and serve the entire community. Those who seek to kill police officers are enemies of the entire community and they must be isolated and handed in so that they can be put behind bars where they cannot pollute society with their violence and hatred.”
