Sandra Overend praises Quick Actions of Driver & Emergency Services response to Moneymore Bus Fire

The Ulster Unionist Party’s Mid-Ulster MLA Sandra Overend has praised the prompt action of the bus driver as well as the emergency services in Moneymore on Tuesday morning as they managed to quell a fire that broke out on a bus as it travelled through the village.

Speaking about the incident, Sandra said,

“First and foremost I am relieved that no children were on the bus at the time, and no-one was injured in the fire, which happened right outside my constituency office in Moneymore. I am also thankful that no other road users or businesses were injured or damaged. Initial reports suggest that a technical problem started a fire at the rear of the bus. The alert driver then pulled the bus over to the side of the road. Due to the close proximity of the engine, which caught fire, to the upholstery on the vehicle, the flames spread quite quickly.

“PSNI Officers and members of the Fire Service quickly arrived on the scene and secured the area, before extinguishing the fire and re-opening the road to traffic. It is through their quick action that the accident was swiftly dealt with the public were allowed to resume normal business.

I would like to praise the actions of the driver and the emergency services who took a potentially life threatening incident and acted to ensure the safety of the public.”
