Londonderry Ulster Unionists welcome re-opening of Belfast to Londonderry rail line

The Chairman of the Foyle Association of the Ulster Unionist Party has hailed the news that the Londonderry to Belfast railway line is to re-open ahead of schedule.

Ronnie McKeegan said:

“The news that the Londonderry to Belfast railway line is to re-open next month ahead of schedule will be welcomed throughout the City and further afield.

I am particularly pleased to pay tribute to the KEY role played by my Ulster Unionist colleague, the   Transport Minister Danny Kennedy MLA, who I know took a keen interest in the £30 million upgrade on this section of the line.

Thanks to his efforts the long term future of the rail link has been secured and it will re-open this weekend to enable visitors to travel to the Maiden City along one of the most scenic stretches of track in the British Isles with views of Downhill and the Foyle shore providing a further boost to the City in its year as UK City of Culture.”
