Overend calls for a positive outcome on corporation tax

Following last Wednesday's Budget brought by the Chancellor George Osborne, Ulster Unionist Economy spokesperson, Sandra Overend reiterated her Party's call for a positive outcome on the devolution of Corporation Tax as soon as possible.

The Mid Ulster MLA said,

"While I very much welcome the Chancellor's reduction of the UK wide rate of Corporation Tax to 20% by 2015, which is a further 1% than originally planned, I remain convinced that Northern Ireland would benefit greatly from the devolution and subsequent lowering of the rate.

"I am disappointed that the Chancellor did not go further within last week's budget and make mention of any consideration to devolve Corporation Tax to the Northern Ireland Executive.

"The gap between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK is growing in terms of economic recovery and the unemployment figures are yet more evidence of that. This week the First and deputy First Minister will meet with David Cameron and a decision on the devolution of Corporation Tax should be top of the agenda."
