Ulster Unionist Economy spokesperson, Sandra Overend, today met with the Utility Regulator following a report which showed that the largest 30% of companies in Northern Ireland are paying some of the highest electricity prices in Europe.
The Mid Ulster MLA said;
“This was a constructive meeting and I was pleased that the Utility Regulator, Shane Lynch, was clear that if there is anything wrong in the regulatory tariff he is committed to fixing it.’
‘It is far from ideal that we have a situation where our largest companies are paying some of the highest prices in Europe for electricity. We must ensure that Northern Ireland is seen as an attractive place to do business in order to both encourage Foreign Direct Investment and help local firms.’
‘To address this issue there must be a collective approach from all stakeholders including the Utility Regulator and the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment to better inform the policy debate in this area.”
