Ulster Unionists condemn Londonderry security alert

The Chair of the Ulster Unionist Party’s Foyle Constituency Association has condemned those behind the security alert which caused the evacuation of homes and premises – including the Ulster Unionist Party Office – in the Bonds Street area of Londonderry on Wednesday afternoon.

Mr Ronnie McKeegan said:

“Once again residents and business people in the city of Londonderry have been put in physical danger and been inconvenienced by faceless people whose only aim is to cause disruption and who have nothing positive to offer anyone in this City or this society.

There is no excuse for planting devices or creating circumstances where people have to leave their homes and businesses. Local people simply want to get on with their lives in a normal society, to bring up their families and live in peace with their neighbours.

Sadly we are still afflicted with criminal gangs who seek to impose themselves on the wider community and it is therefore vital that the entire community gives full backing to the Police Service of Northern Ireland and provides them with every assistance to ensure that those who are wedded to criminality or stuck in the past, are removed from our midst.”
