Hussey accuses those who removed “Welcome to Northern Ireland” sign of living in denial

West Tyrone Ulster Unionist MLA Ross Hussey has hit at out at the individuals responsible for removing a “Welcome to Northern Ireland” road sign outside Strabane.

 Mr Hussey said:

“The people who removed the welcome to Northern Ireland road sign outside Strabane are quite simply living in denial.

No doubt they are sitting somewhere congratulating themselves on having struck a famous blow for Irish “freedom”, but they need to catch themselves on and realise that the Northern Ireland referred to on that sign is the legal entity in which they live, and one that is very much a part of the United Kingdom.

That was settled under the Belfast Agreement 15 years ago, and as a result of it, Sinn Fein, having accepted the fact that the IRA campaign to achieve a united Ireland was a failure, now help administer British rule in Northern Ireland.

I look forward to the replacement of the sign and to it welcoming many more visitors as they cross the border between our neighbours in the Republic and this part of the United Kingdom.”
