Ulster Unionists meet Assistant Chief Constable to discuss parading and justice concerns

Ulster Unionist Justice spokesperson Tom Elliott MLA has led a delegation including Danny Kennedy MLA and Councillor Mark Cosgrove to meet with Assistant Chief Constable Will Kerr to discuss a range of issues including concerns relating to the policing of parades and protests, the importance of equality of treatment for unionists and in particular the case of Willie Frazer.

Mr Elliott said:

“A delegation met with ACC Kerr at Police Headquarters in Belfast this afternoon to discuss a range of issues.

"Amongst the topics covered were the situation regarding the policing of parades and protests in North Belfast, and the need for equality of treatment of unionist and nationalists, the latter point prompted in no small part by the case of Willie Frazer, whose brother Joe accompanied us today.

"I am pleased to say that ACC Kerr gave a number of undertakings, including a commitment to review the policy whereby recommendations are made with regard to bail conditions and how they are managed, to ensure that not only is the system fair, but it is seen to be fair.

"I welcome the fact that the parades which have taken place so far including the Tour of the North and the Whiterock parade have witnessed great dignity and restraint on the part of the participants, and I am confident that this will continue to be the case as we approach the Twelfth of July celebrations next week.”
