Overend lends support to Moyola Park AFC defibrillator appeal

Ulster Unionist Assembly Member for Mid-Ulster, Sandra Overend, is happy to support the fundraising drive by Moyola Park AFC to buy a defibrillator for the club’s Mill Meadow facility in Castledawson.  Although one of Northern Ireland’s oldest football clubs, Moyola play in one of the Province’s most modern facilities, serving over 10,000 people in the past year alone.

Mrs Overend said:

“Moyola Park AFC provide an excellent and busy footballing facility for adults and children alike, as well as spectators.  Therefore, it is essential that specialist medical equipment is at hand in the case of an individual taking ill, either during a match or in training.  I was compelled to make a donation to this most worthwhile of appeals and I trust that in the near future the club will have access to a defibrillator.  It is vital that a venue of this calibre is in possession of such equipment, having hosted some of the biggest domestic cup finals in Northern Ireland in recent years including the Junior and Intermediate Cup Finals.

“The staff of Mill Meadow generously invited me for a tour of this excellent, modern facility and it is certainly a privilege for Mid-Ulster to have a sporting venue of this nature available to people of the locality.  Indeed, my children regularly attend the football development programme run by Moyola AFC and they obviously enjoy their time spent there.  I would like to congratulate the brilliant team of volunteers who give their time to make Moyola Park AFC such a successful club.  This is a cross-community club who strive to raise the profile of football, Castledawson and the Magherafelt District in general, and I would encourage parents to look into the activities available to their children.  These facilities are local to constituents and are also available for social purposes.”
