Ross Hussey comments on Parades Commission determination regarding IRA commemoration parade

Ross Hussey, Ulster Unionist Assembly member for West Tyrone comments on the Parades Commission determination regarding the IRA commemoration parade due to be held in Castlederg.

Mr Hussey said;

“It is difficult for me to welcome any decision that will allow a parade that glorifies terrorism to take place.  We have a situation where a small border town which was probably the most bombed town in Northern Ireland with over 50 bombs during the troubles and with 28 terrorist related deaths which have still not been resolved.

“The decision keeps the parade away from the town and this is welcomed however the parade will be allowed to pass two sites where members of the security forces were attacked.

“Reserve Constable Jacob Rankin was shot dead near Castlederg Police Station and the other at Castlefin Park where Jackie Hamilton was shot - he later died of his wounds after several years and the coroner clearly stated that the terror attack led to his death.

“Any parade glorifying terrorism should not be allowed to take place.”
