Overend welcomes road improvements for Cookstown

Ulster Unionist Assembly Member for Mid-Ulster, Sandra Overend, has welcomed the announcement of a major resurfacing works package for the Cookstown area by her party colleague, Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy MLA.

Sandra, who is the Ulster Unionist Party spokesperson for the Economy, commented;

“This improvement package, resurfacing the area between Molesworth Street and The Fair Hill and costing a total of £120,000 is a very welcome development for Cookstown.

“The work, due to take place from 12 - 17 August, will significantly improve a key arterial route into Cookstown town centre. Traffic control measures will be in place during this period to maintain a two-way traffic flow, whilst James Street will be closed from 19 August to 21 August to facilitate final surfacing. Diversions will be signposted via Fountain Road, Molesworth Street, Cemetery Road, Fairhill Road and Westland Road. Local access will continue to be maintained.

“This news is a further positive development for Mid-Ulster, following the recent announcement that funding has been allocated for the Magherafelt bypass. The Roads Minister has taken into account the need in this area and has rightly acted to ensure that necessary maintenance and infrastructure improvements are delivered.”
