Reacting to today’s announcement regarding the loss of around 150 jobs in Mallusk, Ulster Unionist Councillor and local businessman Mark Cosgrove said:
“This news represents a devastating blow to the individuals involved, their dependant families and to the broader local Mallusk and Newtownabbey community.
I am involved in the distribution sector myself and there is no denying the extremely challenging market conditions that await the workers who have been made redundant. Many of the staff will be worried about their future but hopefully they will be able to find new employment even if its outside of the distribution sector.
I would appeal to the Minister for Employment and Learning to urgently review the immediate training needs of the staff involved.”
