Ulster Unionists condemn Newry shooting

Ulster Unionist MLA Danny Kennedy and the deputy Mayor of Newry & Mourne, Councillor David Taylor, have condemned last night’s gun attack on a house in the Carnbane area of Newry.

Mr Kennedy said:

“I was extremely concerned to learn that shots were fired at a house in Carnbane Gardens at around 23:20 on Sunday night.

I visited the scene this morning and spoke to residents.

I would appeal for anyone who knows anything about this incident to come forward immediately. We simply cannot have people going around Newry shooting at houses, and it is important that this is incident is dealt with as quickly as possible in order to re-assure the local community.”

Councillor Taylor said:

“I utterly condemn last night’s reckless attack on a property in Carnbane Gardens. I know that the local community is both shocked and angry this morning, and I share those sentiments.

Discharging a firearm in a built up area risks injuring or even killing innocent people and there is absolutely no excuse or defence for such activity. Whoever was responsible must be caught and punished in the courts. Community safety is paramount.”
