The Ulster Unionist Party has welcomed today’s announcement of hundreds of new jobs at a call-centre in east Belfast.
Economy spokesperson Sandra Overend MLA said:
“The news that a total of 993 jobs are to be created by the Stream call-centre in east Belfast is a very welcome boost for the local economy and a vote of confidence in Northern Ireland and the local workforce.
I understand that half the jobs are already in place, but the news that almost 500 news jobs are to be delivered will ensure 500 people are gainfully employed and have the chance to pay their mortgages, provide for their families and have money to spend in the local economy.
This is a welcome precursor to the planned Investment Conference on 10th and 11th October where we must grasp the opportunity to showcase Northern Ireland as an excellent location for global business representatives to invest.’’
East Belfast MLA Michael Copeland said:
“An eventual total of 993 jobs in a call-centre at Airport Road West is great news for east Belfast, an area which has suffered badly from the ongoing recession.
I am confident that this will provide a much needed catalyst in the local area and help compensate for the losses we have already suffered.”
