Overend reiterates call for the creation of a Department of the Economy

Ulster Unionist Economy spokesperson, Sandra Overend MLA has backed a call by the CBI for the creation of a Department of the Economy in their latest report "Infrastructure - Investing for our Future”.

Sandra said:

“I support the CBI’s call for the Executive to prioritise infrastructure projects.  The Ulster Unionist Party shares their frustration at the lack of movement in progressing such projects.’

“To breathe life into this area we agree that we need to see the creation of a Department of the Economy.  It has been four years since the IREP first recommended it and it is deeply frustrating that we are no closer to this becoming a reality.’

“Today’s report by the CBI highlights the frustration and discontent that currently exists within the business community that relatively simple steps are not being taken which would make the system more efficient.  We urgently need to see Party leaders back around the table with the focus on negotiating the streamlining of the Executive down to eight departments, something which would ultimately provide more effective government.’
