Beggs hails £7M Caterpillar announcement as good news for the East Antrim economy

Ulster Unionist Party MLA Roy Beggs Jnr has said that today’s Investment announcement by Caterpillar is very good news for his East Antrim constituency.  The American manufacturing giant which now runs the former FG Wilson plants in Larne, Monkstown and West Belfast are diversifying their operations into manufacturing vehicles used in the scrap metal and forestry industries.

Mr Beggs commented:

“Today’s announcement of a £7M investment with government support in Caterpillar is a welcome boost to the local economy.  We wait to see how many new jobs are created from this announcement, and how many will come to the former FG Wilson plants in Larne and Monkstown in my East Antrim constituency.  Nevertheless it is very good news which hopefully will help secure the existing jobs and provide re training opportunities.”

Mr Beggs who has been out visiting local entrepreneurs and businesses with MEP Jim Nicholson today added:

“I am heartened by signs of increasing economic activity by both large and small businesses in the Larne area, many of whom have been incubated by the local Enterprise Agency Ledcom.  These home grown companies are essential for the future of our economy alongside the traditional big employers such as FG Wilsons/Caterpillar.”
