Hussey condemns weekend terror attacks in Belfast and Londonderry

Ulster Unionist Policing Board Member Ross Hussey MLA has condemned the weekend terrorist attacks in Belfast and Londonderry.

Mr Hussey said:

“Last night’s bomb attack at Victoria Square in Belfast city centre came swiftly after a failed attempt to get a delivery driver to transport a device in Londonderry and that incident followed Wednesday night’s events when terrorists sought to get a bus driver to transport a device to Strand Road Police station.

“These are the actions of cowardly bullies and must be condemned by all right thinking people. Transporting devices through town and city streets is utter madness. These are unstable home-made devices and could detonate at any time. The fact that many innocent lives may be lost is obviously of no consequence to the people responsible, as was witnessed so tragically in Omagh in 1998 and on the Shankill Road in 1993.

“This is utter madness which the vast majority of people in this society, from whatever political perspective will condemn unreservedly. These groups must be shunned and exposed as the fascists they are. They have nothing to offer but destruction and death and they must not be allowed to threaten the peace which the rest of us want and have worked so hard for.

“Once again I call on the Secretary of State to do all in her power to make sure that the PSNI have all the resources and support they need to combat this latest republican threat and to remove those responsible from circulation.”
