Elliott condemns City Centre firebomb attempt

Ulster Unionist Justice spokesperson, Tom Elliott MLA has condemned last night’s attempt to firebomb a shop in Belfast city centre’s Cornmarket.

Mr Elliott said:

“Last Friday my colleague, Michael McGimpsey described those responsible for exploding the bomb near the MAC as ‘the enemies of all the people of Belfast.’

“The individual who last night attempted to firebomb a shop in the Cornmarket in Belfast city centre is another one.

“Mercifully no members of the public were injured in last night’s incident, but it is a sobering reminder that there are still fanatics out there who care nothing for the safety of others or the economic well-being of our city and country.

“We need to build up our economy and support traders, especially at this time of year. These attempts at economic sabotage must be resisted by all means necessary.

“I have no doubt that the Police and the Intelligence services are doing all they can to thwart these people, and I call on the public to be vigilant and to assist the Police by notifying them of any suspicious activity and by passing on any information they may have.”
