Ulster Unionist West Tyrone MLA Ross Hussey has welcomed the Appeal Court’s decision to dismiss appeals by two republicans who were found responsible for the Omagh bombing in August 1998 in which 29 people, including the mother of unborn twins, were murdered.
Mr Hussey, who also represents his Party on the Policing Board, said:
“Today’s decision by the Belfast Appeal Court to dismiss appeals by Colin Murphy and Seamus Daley - who were found responsible for the Omagh bombing - will be greeted with relief and approval by many people.
“It is still a matter of deep regret that no-one has ever convicted in a criminal court for the Omagh atrocity, but the landmark civil action brought by the victims’ relatives is one path to secure some small measure of justice.”
