Ulster Unionist MLA Jo-Anne Dobson has said that the family of Andrew Lorimer, who was murdered in Lurgan last year, have been left disgusted and disappointed by the decision of the DPP not to appeal against his killers' sentences.
After meeting with the family today at their home in Lurgan, Mrs Dobson said:
“David, Julie and Marion, like countless others, have been totally let down by a judicial system which refuses to move into the twenty first century.
“All this family are asking for is justice for their beloved Andrew. I originally asked, on several occasions, for the DPP to meet with the Lorimer family before arriving at this decision.
"I defy anyone not to arrive at a different conclusion if they were to come with me and meet this family. I, alongside the community in Mourneview and Lurgan stand shoulder to shoulder with the Lorimer family in their fight for justice.
"We will not rest until Andrew receives the justice he deserves. That is why we will be accepting the DPP's late offer of a meeting and I have also requested that the Justice Minister meet with the family at Stormont to hear their deeply emotional story."
