McGimpsey welcomes new Film Studios for Titanic Quarter

Ulster Unionist Culture, Arts and Leisure Spokesperson, Michael McGimpsey, has welcomed the announcement that two new film studios are on schedule to be built at Titanic Quarter establishing Belfast as one of Europe’s largest film locations, as great news for Belfast and Northern Ireland.

The South Belfast MLA said;

“I have long called for us to maximise the benefits of our Creative Industries such as film, music, design, fashion, the arts and software and computer services, which all have so much economic potential in terms of growth.

“The creation of an additional 100,000 square feet of studio facilities will be a massive boost, almost doubling Titanic Studios production space.

“It must not be forgotten that the movie making tradition at Titanic Quarter began 14 years ago when the Paint Hall Studio produced Spike Milligan’s film Puckoon.

“I am absolutely delighted to see today that what we started all those years ago has developed so successfully and I am in no doubt that this is due in large part to the innate creativity of our people, especially our young people, who are driving this process.”
