Hussey welcomes increase in weekly average rail and bus passenger journeys

Ross Hussey MLA, Ulster Unionist Transport spokesperson, has welcomed an increase in the weekly average of rail and bus passenger journeys compared to the same quarter in 2012.

Mr Hussey said:

“The announcement that train passenger journeys have risen to 12.9million in the past year has quickly been followed with the fantastic news that the weekly average of bus and passenger journeys have also increased in the July to September 2013 quarter.

“In comparison to the corresponding quarter of 2012, the weekly average of bus passenger journeys is up by 2%, with the weekly average of train passenger journeys up 19%’

“It is fantastic that more people are making public transport their first option when they are making a journey. This is no doubt a more attractive prospect thanks to the hard work of Minister Danny Kennedy which has seen fares remaining frozen at the current prices for 2014, new trains joining the fleet and continuing investment in infrastructure.
