Elliott Welcomes Appointment of Commissioner for Older People

Ulster Unionist Party Leader, Tom Elliott, has welcomed the appointment of Ms Claire Keatinge as the new Commissioner for Older People.
He commented:
‘On behalf of the Ulster Unionist Party I would welcome this appointment. The Ulster Unionist Party believes there is a genuine need for such a Commissioner as over a quarter of our population in the next twenty years will be aged 60+, the largest proportion in the whole of the United Kingdom. We hope that Ms Keatinge will provide the support which older people deserve whilst promoting and safeguarding their interests and challenging discrimination.
However, it is absolutely essential that the Commissioner must provide full value for money at a time of financial constraint and the Offices focus must be on actually delivering tangible benefits for older people. Having said that, we look forward to working with the Commissioner and wish her well in her new role.’
