Ulster Unionists visit £3.1m Wastewater Improvement Programme for North Down

North Down Ulster Unionists Leslie Cree MLA and Cllr Marion Smith have visited Bangor’s Sewerage Improvement Scheme along with Minister Danny Kennedy to view progress on £3.1million improvement work being carried out to improve sewerage infrastructure and key pumping stations in the area. 

Minister Kennedy said: 

“This major project represents an investment of around £3.1million.  

“With upgrade work underway at Luke’s Point and the construction of the new Pumping Station at Bangor Marina, the investment will deliver extra storage capacity into the system, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.  

“The quality of the bathing water quality along the Bangor coastline will also improve as a result of the work. 

“This project has helped secure jobs in the local construction industry and I congratulate Maghera-based construction firm BSG Civil Engineering and AECOM (Belfast) on securing this very significant contract” 

Leslie Cree MLA said: 

“I was pleased to be able to visit Bangor Marina and Luke’s Point with the Minister to see the work being carried out which will improve water quality and improve the capacity of the sewerage infrastructure. It is good news that such significant investment in being put into improving infrastructure in North Down.’ 

Cllr Marion Smith said: 

“It was great to visit a project that will have a real, positive impact on the daily lives of customers in the area. There is also the added benefit of the local construction industry getting a boost with this contract.’
