Time for some straight answers – Elliott

Ulster Unionist Justice spokesperson, Tom Elliott MLA, has called for David Ford to give some straight answers about what has been going on in the Department of Justice.

Mr Elliott said:

“Given the latest revelation that a senior official in the Department of Justice knew that the On the Runs ‘Administrative Scheme’ was taking place, it is incumbent on the Justice Minister to come before the Assembly and give a ministerial statement on the matter. My colleague Danny Kennedy called for David Ford to do that during today`s debate.

“The Assembly and the country need to know when did David Ford become aware of the fact that Nick Perry knew about the scheme. Was David Ford aware of this when the debate took place in the Assembly on Friday? Was he aware of this when he denied any knowledge of the "On the Runs" letters during the past number of days?

“These are crucially important issues and it`s time that we had some straight answers if we are to rebuild confidence in the political institutions and the rule of law.”
