Dobson condemns Banbridge arson attack

Ulster Unionist MLA Jo-Anne Dobson has condemned an overnight arson attack outside the home of an elderly Banbridge couple.

Commenting on the attack which took place in Edenvale Avenue in the town Mrs Dobson said:

"I have spoken to this couple, who I know personally, this morning and they have told me just how close the fire came to spreading to their house.

"We could so easily be dealing with fatalities this morning.

"Their car has been totally destroyed and damage caused to the front windows and frames of the house.

"Those who carried out this attack have absolutely no reason whatsoever for targeting a couple who have exemplary standing in Banbridge. I utterly condemn their reckless actions.

"I have nothing but praise for the Fire service who quickly attended the scene and prevented the fire from spreading from the burning car to the house.

"I know that damage has been caused to the front of the property - showing the danger that the fire could have easily spread.

"I would ask anyone who may have any information about this incident, or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the Edenvale Avenue area last night to contact Banbridge PSNI urgently to assist with their enquiries."
