Hussey welcomes re-opening of investigation into 1982 murder of UDR man

The Ulster Unionist Party’s West Tyrone MLA Ross Hussey has welcomed the announcement that the investigation into the murder of a part-time UDR soldier in 1982 is to be re-opened.

Mr Hussey, who is also a member of the Policing Board, said;

“Lexie Cummings was 39 years old and a part-time member of the Ulster Defence Regiment who was callously murdered by the IRA in Strabane in June 1982 as he left his work in a drapery store to go home for lunch.

“Lexie is one of the 29 Derg Valley Victims and he has never been forgotten by his family and many friends.

“I very much welcome the re-opening of the investigation into Mr Cumming’s murder and I fervently hope that this investigation comes to a satisfactory conclusion when the people responsible face a court of law.

“The Cummings family circle has waited a very long time for movement in this case, and like all the others who have had family members murdered throughout the troubles, is entitled to justice. They have waited long enough and I for one hope that it comes soon.”
