Sinn Fein need to make a clear statement of their support for law and order - Tom Elliott

Ulster Unionist Justice spokesperson, Tom Elliott MLA has called on Sinn Fein to make a clear statement of whether they support policing and justice or not.

Tom Elliott said:

"Sinn Fein's words and actions since Gerry Adams was arrested have been devoid of sympathy for the plight of Jean McConville's Family.

"Instead of issuing threats to withdraw their support for policing and justice, Sinn Fein should be telling republicans to assist the police in any way they can to help put Jean McConville's murderers behind bars.

"Sinn Fein's now questionable support for the police backs up what we warned of in 2010 when policing and justice were devolved.

"Bobby Storey's outburst on Saturday was very concerning and sounded like rhetoric from the past. In the media, Alex Maskey also said that they can support whatever they like. What does that mean? Is this a threat of going back to supporting murder and destruction?

"Suggestions from Martin McGuinness, Maskey and Storey that there is a cabal acting against them are mere attempts to divert attention away from the police investigations into the abduction, torture and murder of a mother of ten young children and offer excuses as to why Sinn Fein may withdraw support for law and order.

"Instead of politicking with policing and justice, Martin McGuinness and the rest of the Sinn Fein leadership need to get off the fence and make clear their support for the police and law and order - or not."
