Overend welcomes swift police action after suspicious approach to a child in Coagh

Sandra Overend, Ulster Unionist MLA for Mid-Ulster, has praised police for their swift action after it was confirmed that an arrest has been made following a suspicious approach which was made to a child in Coagh.

Mrs Overend, who is the Ulster Unionist Party’s Children and Young People’s spokesperson, said:

“I was pleased to be informed by the PSNI this morning that they have made an arrest in connection with a suspicious approach to a child in Coagh. This was a very concerning incident, and I have been in regular contact with the police since I was first alerted to it, and have followed their guidance in dealing with the incident.

“I am very pleased that the police have been able to act quickly in this instance, and the most important thing is that thankfully the child came to no harm.”

“I understand that there was another incident in recent days in the Draperstown area, although I have no information at present that the two are linked. I would urge parents to be vigilant, and also ask anyone with any information about either incident to come forward to the police.”
