Danny Kennedy to continue as DRD Minister

Ulster Unionist Party Leader, Mike Nesbitt MLA, has announced that Danny Kennedy MLA will continue as Minister for Regional Development.

Mr Nesbitt said:

“It is time for a reshuffle within our MLA grouping at Stormont, but the first decision is simple, Danny Kennedy MLA will continue as DRD Minister.

“Danny's dedication to his work and doing what's right for Northern Ireland has put public transport on the front foot with growth across the board. Public transport passenger numbers are up, new buses and trains have been added to the fleet and we have seen new train stations developed such as the ones in Portadown and Antrim. This is a remarkable achievement in the current straightened financial times, but Danny has led the way among Ministers in the NI Executive in competing for European Union funding. Thanks to Danny’s vision and enthusiasm, public transport is increasingly becoming the first choice for people when making a journey.

“Nor has he forgotten the motorist, with progress on major road projects such as the A2, A26, A8 and extensive improvements across the road network. He has also rolled out the very successful 5 hours parking for £1 which shows continued commitment to our town centres.

“He has brought forward an exciting and ambitious strategy setting out his vision for the future of railway investment in Northern Ireland for the next 20 years.

“His commitment to cycling and sustainable transport form part of a wider long term vision for more liveable towns and cities, which has seen him kick start a cycling revolution for Northern Ireland, given such a boost by the arrival of the Giro d’Italia.

“I wish Danny continued success in his position, as the Ulster Unionist Party re-engages with the electorate, on foot of a successful set of local government Election results.

“As for the reshuffle, I expect changes in our Party spokespeople to be announced before the summer recess.”
