Portadown u-turn opens up new parading problem - Swann

Robin Swann MLA, Ulster Unionist parading spokesperson, has said that the Parades Commission’s u-turn over a Portadown parade opens up a new parading problem in the town.

Mr Swann said:

“Placing restrictions on this parade has taken what could have been a positive move for Portadown, and parading in Northern Ireland more broadly, and turned it into another contentious parading problem.

“When the focus should be on trying to find a solution for the remaining contentious parades in Northern Ireland, this u-turn opens up a new problem.

“The Parades Commission must be strong in their decision making and not appear to cave-in at the first sign of opposition.  The flip flop over this decision doesn’t create a good climate as we head into the summer months.
