Dobson holds Stormont talks with Cystic Fibrosis Trust

Ulster Unionist Health Spokesperson Jo-Anne Dobson MLA meeting with Cystic Fibrosis Trust representatives, Public Affairs Officer Darren O'Keefe and local charity trustee Brian Henderson.

Jo-Anne Dobson MLA, Ulster Unionist Health spokesperson, has met with representatives of the charity Cystic Fibrosis Trust at Parliament Buildings, Stormont.

Following her meeting with Public Affairs Officer Darren O'Keefe and local trustee Brian Henderson Jo-Anne said:

"I was delighted to get the opportunity to meet with representatives of the CF Trust and to receive their full support for my proposal to change our local organ donation laws.

"Changing the law to a 'soft opt-out' system, where the family always has the final say, will enable more people with Cystic Fibrosis to have a chance of receiving a successful organ transplant.

"During the meeting I was able to update the charity, which is the UK's only national charity dealing with all aspects of Cystic Fibrosis, on the proposal to change the law in Northern Ireland through my Private Members Bill.

"I remain determined and committed to ensuring that Northern Ireland becomes the second region of the United Kingdom, after Wales, to change its laws and to improve the life chances of everyone who is waiting on a transplant both now and in the future."

“I also received an update on the charities work in Westminster where they recently secured a debate during National Transplant Week to encourage the public to sign up to the organ donor register and talk to their families and friends about their wishes.

"I would commend the Trust members, and their national Public Affairs Officer Darren in particular, for the hard work which they are doing across the devolved regions and at Westminster to help promote organ donation and to fight on behalf of all those with Cystic Fibrosis.

"I am delighted to receive the Trust's support for my Organ Donation Bill and look forward to working closely with them to have a strong impact as we campaign together on a range of issues in the coming months."
