Ulster Unionists praise Clogher Valley Show

Ulster Unionist politicians have praised the organisers and exhibitors at this year's Clogher Valley Show.

MEP Jim Nicholson, Agriculture spokesperson Jo-Anne Dobson MLA and local MLA and Agriculture Committee member Tom Elliott joined the thousands of people who thronged the annual Clogher Show.

Speaking from the Show Mr Nicholson said:

"As always, Clogher Show attracted visitors and exhibitors from all across Northern Ireland and further afield.

“Shows such as this are always a good opportunity to speak to farmers and their families about the issues affecting them, and our struggling beef industry was one of the main topics of conversation this year.

“The issue of residency penalties for cattle remains a major concern amongst our beef farmers. It is clear that we need to quickly reach the stage where we can get all the key players around the table and thrash out what is the best solution for the future of our struggling beef sector.”

Upper Bann MLA and UUP Agriculture spokesperson Jo-Anne Dobson said:

“It was clear that so much hard work and preparation had gone on beforehand to prepare all the animals for the show and it was evident as judging took place that everyone had a huge sense of pride in their animals.

"Clogher Valley Show is a centre-piece event in the agricultural calendar and I send my congratulations to all the CVAS members as well as the winners, runners up and all the exhibitors for another fantastic show."

Local MLA Tom Elliott said:

"Farming in Northern Ireland contributes a large amount to the local economy, as well as a social side of the business. If the best outcomes from the agri-food sector are to be achieved it is important that we engage with the farming community and events like this are a positive way to carry out such engagement.

"There was a great turnout today, especially the large number of families present at the show and the professionalism of those taking part in the competitions."

Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough council were the main sponsors again this year, donating a total prize fund of £6000 in the Equestrian Championships. It is things like this that support and help to build the agricultural community and especially their trust in local representatives.
